Getting started
When can I start?
The app isn’t open yet. Every one of our 60 courses is being built now. Join the waitlist and we’ll email you when your language opens.
Which phones does it work on?
iPhone and Android phones, including budget Android phones. Lessons can be downloaded for when you’re offline.
Do I need to know any of the language already?
No. Start from the very first word, or take a short placement if you already understand or speak a little.
Which languages can I learn?
60 languages, from Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa to Tagalog, Punjabi and Quechua. See the full list with “hello” in each one on the languages page.
How lessons work
What is the Voice Path?
Our own scale: eight rings from Greeter to Voice Carrier, each with three steps. It tells you, in plain words, what you can do and what comes next.
Are the lessons correct?
Some lines are made with computer help and checked by our Voice Guides.
Voice Guides are paid native speakers. The app shows whether a line has been checked, and you can vote on any line or suggest a fix.
What is Tone Mirror?
In tonal languages, pitch changes meaning. Tone Mirror draws your pitch over a native speaker’s so you can see which part to lift or lower. It works on your phone, even offline.
Can I hear my own family in lessons?
Yes, with Family Voice. Relatives you invite record phrases, and their recordings appear in your lessons. Only your family can hear them.
Families and kids
Can my child use Elaüquent?
Yes. Children under 13 need a parent or guardian to say yes by email first. Until then, lessons work on the phone and nothing is shared.
What can parents control?
Daily time limits, whether Play is on, who a child may swap voice notes and play with, and sign-in codes for a new phone. You also see their progress.
How many people does the Family plan cover?
Up to 6 people, adults and kids.
Privacy and your account
Do you show ads or sell data?
No. There are no ads, no tracking tools and no tracking cookies, and we don’t sell data.
How long are voice notes kept?
90 days, unless someone in the chat saves one. You can delete your own note at any time.
Can I get a copy of my data, or delete my account?
Yes, both, from the app’s settings. Deleting your account deletes your data and recordings.
How do I leave the waitlist?
Use the link at the bottom of any email from us. It deletes your address straight away.
Or write to hello@elauquent.com and we’ll delete it for you.
Voice Guides and helping
How do I become a Voice Guide?
Apply in our Studio. You need to be 18 or over and to have grown up speaking the language. We check an identity document and a short sample of your work.
How are Voice Guides paid?
Either a share of their language’s revenue or a rate per task, agreed before they start.
Can I help without becoming a Voice Guide?
Yes. In the app, Help your language lets you vote on lines, suggest fixes and report problems.
