Voice Guides
Your language deserves to be said right.
We’re building 60 courses at once. Our tools write the first draft; native speakers make it right. Voice Guides are the people who do that, and they are paid for it.
What Voice Guides do.
Some lines are made with computer help and checked by our Voice Guides. Nothing a learner sees changes until a Voice Guide accepts it.
Fix lines
Read lines in your language and correct the ones that don’t sound like a real person.
Mark tones
In tonal languages, check the tone of every syllable so learners copy the right pitch.
Record audio
Record lines and words in your own voice, from your browser, when you agree to it.
Review each other
Every piece of work gets a second look from another Voice Guide before it goes live.
Pay
Paid for your knowledge.
Each Voice Guide is paid in one of two ways, agreed before you start:
- A share of your language’s revenue. Part of what learners pay is set aside for the people who build their language, and shared by the work each Voice Guide did that month.
- Per task. A set rate for each line fixed, tone marked, recording made or review done.
You get a monthly statement of your work and pay, and payouts go through payment providers that work in your region. Rates and shares are agreed with each Voice Guide and may differ by language.
How to join.
You don’t need to be a teacher. You need to have grown up speaking the language, and care how it sounds.
Apply
Tell us your language and dialect, record a short voice sample and try a quick test of ten lines.
Get checked
You must be 18 or over. We check an identity document by hand, then you accept the Voice Guide agreement.
Start with a warm-up
A first set of lines that helps us see where Voice Guides agree, and a welcome into the work queue.
Help your language
Every learner can help.
In the app, Help your language shows lines that could use a second opinion. It takes a minute, and it shows Voice Guides where to look first.
- Vote: is this line right?
- Suggest a better way to say it
- Report something that’s off
- Earn helper badges when a Voice Guide uses your fix
Grown-ups who reach Ring 5 in a language, or have many fixes accepted, may be invited to apply as a Voice Guide.
