Voice Guide terms
About these terms
This page summarises the agreement between [LEGAL REVIEW: company legal name] and Voice Guides. The full contributor agreement and voice consent are shown in the Studio, and you accept the newest version before you take any task. Each version you accept is kept with the date. [LEGAL REVIEW: final contributor agreement and voice consent texts]
Who can apply
- Adults (18 or over) who grew up speaking the language they apply for.
- You apply in the Studio with your languages and dialect, a short voice sample and a ten-line test.
- A member of our team checks an identity document by hand before approving you. We don’t keep a copy.
- Each language has a limited number of places. When it is full, applicants wait on a short list, ranked by our assessment and then by the date they applied, and we write when a place opens.
The work
- Tasks include fixing lines, marking tones, recording lines and words, reviewing passages, writing everyday sentences and reviewing learners’ suggestions.
- New Voice Guides first complete a set of lines on their own, without seeing other answers, so we can compare how Voice Guides agree.
- You claim tasks from a queue; a claim lasts 48 hours. Every piece of work is reviewed by a second Voice Guide or an admin before it is accepted.
- You decide when and how much you work. [LEGAL REVIEW: independent contractor status and tax responsibilities by country]
Pay
Before you start, you and we agree one of two ways to pay you:
- Revenue share: a share of the subscription revenue from learners of your language, split among that language’s Voice Guides by the accepted work each did that month, possibly with a monthly minimum or cap.
- Per task: a set rate for each kind of accepted task.
Rates, shares and currency are set out in your own contract. Each month closes into a statement you can see, and payouts are made through a payment provider that works in your region. Rejected work is not paid. [LEGAL REVIEW: payment terms, timing, minimum payout and currency]
Your work and your voice
- Text and corrections you send become part of the course and belong to Elaüquent once sent, including after you stop. [LEGAL REVIEW: assignment or licence wording, and moral rights]
- Recording tasks need your separate voice consent. You can withdraw it: we then stop giving you recording tasks, discard your recordings not yet reviewed, and take your recordings out of anything not yet published. Versions of a course already published keep them.
Stopping
You can stop at any time by withdrawing the contributor agreement. Tasks you had claimed go back to the queue, and work already sent stays in the course. We may pause or end a Voice Guide’s access, for example if reviews show repeated problems. [LEGAL REVIEW: notice period and how earned pay is settled]
Your data
We keep your application, voice sample, agreements, work history and pay records to run the programme and meet legal duties. Your voice sample is private and only our admins can hear it. See our privacy policy. [LEGAL REVIEW: retention period for applications and pay records]
